Margaret Baucom Bio: In 2003, Margaret Baucom moved to Taos from the Washington, D.C., area where she had worked for almost twenty years as a supervisor in the Art Information Program of the National Gallery of Art. She is presently a volunteer at the Millicent Rogers Museum where she teaches pottery and weaving to children. She also teaches art for the Museum Association of Taos.

Her experience working with co-op galleries; being on the board of the Art League at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, Virginia; teaching children’s art for five years; and working at the National Gallery have made creating art her passion.

Margaret Baucom Artist Statement:

I am interested in layering paint and building up texture. From this process, a visual image begins to appear, sparking an idea I can explore. Theemergence of this image is a surprise and provides the motif and colors I use to hold a work together. At times, I use the same motif and colors to continue a thought or story line into my next work.

Letting a work of art speak for itself is risky--sometimes it works and sometimes not, but my creative journey is always exciting and challenging. In this sense, every work of art is rewarding.
